On Saturday the 28th of March a musical experience of a lifetime will take place on The Caravan Music Club’s stage.

Two of the most acclaimed musicians in Melbourne, Ashley Naylor and Nick Barker, will present a unique night to celebrate the music of THE BYRDS, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD and NEIL YOUNG.

'I came to The Byrds in my late teens in an era when music was shared via friends lending records, making tapes and hearing songs on public radio. Matt Palmer a dear friend from those days was, the major advocate of the magic of The Byrds music among our circle of friends at that time. I once borrowed a Byrds tee shirt from my friend Nadine for an Even e.p. inner sleeve photo in an attempt to eternally align myself with them on one of my own releases.

Although I’ll never be able to play like Roger McGuinn or sing like David Crosby, I love being immersed in the sound of 12 string electric guitar and strident vocals and relish the chance to perform these transcendent songs. In order to bring this music to life in a concert setting I needed to lean on some local heavyweight friends, Rick Plant ( guitar and vocals) and Michael Barclay ( drums and vocals). Both posess an uncanny affinity with the music we have chosen to represent with their ethereal voices, vast musical skill and unwavering talent.

Matt Palmer joins us on bass, a rare individual able to attain a connection to the idiosyncratic bass style of the great Chris Hillman. Matt knows this music intimately. I still recall his Byrds collage on the wall of Matt’s share house in Northcote in the 90’s. With that fandom in mind, we present the music of The Byrds with great affection.

At the Caravan club on March 28 we join forces with Nick Barker and his esteemed colleagues to play music we love to people who love it like we do.' Ashley Naylor

NEIL YOUNG

Neil Young’s 1975 release ‘Tonight’s the Night ” is a dark, tequila and THC fueled masterpiece. Its “Shaky” at his loose best and defines and divides Neil Young fans. Needless to say it is a musicians favorite and Nick Barker will play the album start to finish with a band of Melbourne’s finest Shane O’Mara( Paul Kelly , Rebecca’s Empire), Ben Franz (the waifs), Michael Barclay (WPA, Paul Kelly and the Colored girls) Rick Plant & Adrian Whitehead
